Welcome to His and His Odyssey.  At the very beginning an idea was hatched that started out through a division.  It was a division of ideals between good friends.  A misunderstanding due to lack of information.  This odyssey started many years ago between Kyle and Nick.

Nick and Kyle grew up only a block apart.  They both had different upbringings and lead very different paths to who they are today.  But today they are two men that hold their faith as integral as to who they are.  But even though they come to the same conclusions on many things regarding their faith, they do have their differences.  A simple metaphor would be to say that Kyle is to Rob Bell as Nick is to Mark Driscoll, but this comparison is definitely an over exaggeration.

Both Kyle and Nick would say that they love their God passionately.  And through many discussions have come to the conclusion that even though there are differences in ideals, the foundations are the same.  So the question rose; how did our faith develop and change us into who we are today?  Both could instantly point to various books that had helped in their faith development.  So in an effort to better understand the opposite side of doctrinal issues within Christianity, the proposal was made to read, listen, and watch any book, sermon, or video that was vital to faith development for the other person.  Simply, Nick would read Kyle's books and Kyle would read Nick's books.

But a simple reading of a book whose subject matter and purpose are contrary to the reader's would leave a person frustrated and annoyed and no progress would be made to seek out this understanding that is desired.  So a commitment was made: ignore everything you've heard about each item and try (as hard as it may be) to read each item with fresh eyes and an open heart and mind.  Through this a better understanding and growth will be attained.

So it is here that reviews, journal entries, and progress reports will be written.  Each reader will write his own take on each book, sermon, or video.  At the end of this little odyssey, both Nick and Kyle expect to, at the very least, gain understanding of the other side.

So it is with this endeavor in mind that we, Kyle and Nick, ask you to come along on this journey.  Feel free to comment and join the conversation.
